Repairs & Refinishing

Dave offers full repair and refinish services for both acoustic and electric guitars as well a range of services for other string instruments.

For information about repairs, please contact me by email, with a description of the damage/work required and preferably with attached photographs of the instrument.

After initial assessment I will offer a provisional estimate. Every effort will be made to keep within this estimate, but should the work required be more extensive than the initial assessment indicated, you will be contacted with a revised estimate. No work will be undertaken without the customer’s full agreement. Estimates will not include carriage and insurance costs. As these will be added to your final bill, pleases be certain that you are fully committed to having the work done before incurring these expenses.

Prior to pickup,  instruments should be packed in a hard case (flight case) with string tension slackened  and some form of padding around the headstock and neck.

Straightforward repairs can often be completed within two weeks. For major restoration however, work can run into several weeks.

This option will work only if the truss rod has snapped just behind the adjusting nut. For Fender and Gibson 10-32 t/rods.
HEADSTOCK REPAIR £60 †
Price depends on the severity of the break and whether re-finishing is needed. For a good repair it is important that all pieces should be kept, including finish. For very severe breaks the headstock/neck joint may need to be splinted or be strengthened with carbon fibre. Maple necks cannot be repaired invisibly. If this is unacceptable, a new neck should be considered.
